This coming bank holiday weekend a special anniversary will be celebrated as popular local shopkeeper Eddie Murphy will be 70 years working at the corner in the retail business. This is a unique celebration as Eddie is an institution in the area and you could not imagine the village without Eddie. Eddie is a great community person always willing to help out different organisations over the years. In his time he has being on the committee of St. Mochtas, a great friend of the community centre and of course he has sponsored the girl Guides quiz since its inception and not forgetting his involvement with the Bowls club. One could go on but Eddie's good nature knows no bounds. He has seen many changes since 1949 when he came to the village to his Uncles business but one thing that hasn't change is that we can depend on Eddie and his family. We mustn't forget his loving wife Bernie and to the two of them and their family we send the communities congratulations and thank for their tremendous service to the area over these past 70 years and wish them well for the future. The prices in the shop will be at 1949 prices for a half a day yet to be decided we think.

Also this weekend we have the annual blessing of the graves and as usual there will be a large crowd. All the graves are looking splendid and we would like to urge everyone to respect the graveyard and also if people could bring home all rubbish. The ceremonies commence in the old Graveyard at 5pm and then in the new cemetery at 6pm. Lets hope the weather stays fine.

Coffee morning

A very successful coffee morning was held in Eileen O'Reillys house Ballyoran last Sunday week and we congratulate the Reilly family and all who helped out to make the day the success it was. All proceeds went to the Louth Hospice and Drogheda Oncology unit. We thank all who helped and organised the successful day.

Older residents especially were really saddened to hear of the death of James Conlon formerly of Channonrock Louth which occurred on Sunday 21st July. Louth and Fr. Tommy Mc. Geough P.E. uncle of the deceased. We send our deepest sympathies to his sisters Mary, Margaret, Bernadette and Patricia his uncle Fr. Tommy brothers In Law nieces nephews relatives and friends and all who knew him.

Well done Amy

We send congratulations to Amy Farrell Rathbrist who was a member of was a member of the successful Louth girls under 16 team which won the All-Ireland final against Sligo last Wednesday. The final score was 6-18 to 3-12. The game was played in Mullahoran Co. Cavan.
