Naomh Malachi get on their bikes for 'Tour de Lu'

FOLLOWING the success of their cycle to Dublin last year, Naomh Malachi are hitting the road again with a 100km 'Tour De Lu' cycle on SundaY.

This year the cycle will take the riders on a scenic route around the Wee County and over 100 people have already signed up.

'This year, we wanted to bring the cycle closer to home and experience the sights and the sounds of our own county, and we've been heartened by the response,' explains club chairman, Martin Hoey. 'We've had a trial run of the cycle and the scenery is breath-taking, particularly along the coastal roads,' added club secretary Áine Lynch.

Registration for the cycle will remain open until the morning of event at a fee of €50 per person.

However, cyclists are encouraged to sign up sooner rather than later to guarantee they receive a limited edition cycling jersey to mark the occasion, which has been kindly sponsored by local businesses.

Although the cycle is for beginners, a full back-up of repair and medical services and marshals will accompany the cyclists on the day. Full refreshments will be served during a stop-off in Clogherhead and on the return to Courtbane.

There will be a presentation made to all cyclists later that evening in the Naomh Malachi clubrooms in Courtbane with live music and light refreshments.

All are welcome to wave the cyclists off as they depart Courtbane on Sunday morning at 10am and there may even be a few lining the route.
