Tuesdays with Morrie from DTW
There's a real treat in store for theatre lovers when Dundalk Theatre Workshop present 'Tuesdays with Morrie' in The Studio at The Tain Arts Centre, opening next Tuesday, May 15 for three performances.
Having staged three plays last year to mark their 40th anniversary, the group are back with the stage adaptation of Mitch Albom's best selling novel.
Telling the story of the friendship between Morrie, an older man and his ex-student Mitch, the book was the New York Times non-fiction best seller of 2000.
It was made into a film, produced by Oprah Winfrey, which won three Emmy awards, including one for Jack Lemmon in his final part before his death.
This production reunites director Gerry Roddy and Matt Murphy, who plays the part of Morrie. They have been involved in amateur dramatics in Dundalk for many years and are enjoying collaborating on this production.
Gerry directed 'Stolen Child' which was one of the group's 40th anniversary productions last May. One of the cast, Gabrielle Tuomey, went on to be winner of the Mary Cosgrove perpetual drama award for her wonderful performance.
Matt played the part of Chief Dwight Gracle in David Mamet's play 'November' which was the final in the trio of anniversary productions for the group last year.
He also directed the group's production of David Mamet's 'Glengarry Glenross' which won the Abbey Award at All Ireland Drama Festival in Athlone 2016.
This resulted in the group staging the production in the Peacock Theatre at Dublin's famed Abbey Theatre for three nights.
The cast of 'Tuesdays with Morrie' also features Sean Whelan, a regular performer with Dundalk Theatre Workshop. He most recent appearances with the group were in Plaza Suite in 2015 and Glengarry Glenross in 2016. He will play Mitch Albom in this production.
Fiona Mullen completes the cast playing Janine.
She played Gwendolen Fairfax in 'The Importance of Being Earnest' which launched group's 40 Anniversary Year for Theatre Workshop in March 2017.
She is also a member of Dundalk Musical Society
Due to the limited seating in The Studio Theatre, early booking is advisable for this production.
The play opens on Tuesday, May 15th and tickets are available at the box office in An Tain Arts Centre, on line at www.antain.ie or by phoning 042 9332332.
