Word has just reached the Entertainments Desk that one of the country’s biggest bands will be joining forces with a couple of local bands to bring you what has to be one of the best looking line ups this year. The Republic Of Loose will headline on the night when The Rogues and The Trampz will also be in action.

The line-up for Saturday 24th February in the Park Inn on the Armagh Road was only finalised at the weekend and all looks set for what should be one of the funkiest nights of the year so far!

Yes, this is one of the most eclectic line ups in quite some time bringing together easily one of the smoothest bands on the planet at the moment, The Republic of Loose are no strangers to the town having played in the Spirit Store on a couple of occasions. They started life back in 2001 rising from the ashes of Johnny Pyro and the Rock Coma. They recorded their debut album ‘This is the Tomb of the Juice’ in 2003 which was released in 2004 and emerged as the most exciting live act in the country, led to tour support with the Neville Brothers, the Thrills, the Zutons, the Scissor Sisters, Alabama 3, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Snow Patrol, The Roots, Dilated Peoples, as well as festival appearances at Glastonbury, T in the Park, the Fleadh, Oxygen and the Transmusicale, Nice Jazz and Furia Sound festivals in France.

The single ‘Comeback Girl’ was released in July 2005 and became a huge radio hit they followed on with the now classic ‘You Know It’ was released in October of that year and became an even bigger hit.

Last year brought their emergence into the big league with the release of their second album ‘Aaagh’ which, to date has gleaned a staggering 5 singles from it, the most recent is their current single ‘The Idiot’ which is currently being played off the radio at the moment. They have also been nominated for the best Irish band in this years Meteors and are on a major roll at the moment.

Support will be by Stoney and the lads from the Rogues who will have nothing short of a totally mental set (as it always is) and if that wasn’t enough, those funky Trampz will have the honour of opening the proceedings on Saturday 24th February. There will be a DJ on hand to keep things rolling all night long.

In conclusion it only leaves this writer to use two well tried and tested clichés ‘one not to be missed’ and ‘you have been warned’.

More on this in the coming weeks...!
