Love/Hate actor for An Tain

The award winning actor Stephen Jones, best known for his performances in Love/Hate, Red Rock, and Nowhere Fast, comes to The Studio Theatre at An Tain Arts Centre on Friday night in a one-man show which tells the story of the immigrants who fought s against the Americans in 19th century war with Mexico.

'100 more of like these: The Story of the San Patricio' by Larry O'Loughlin, recounts this largely forgotten story from the viewpoint of Thomas O'Byrne, who is caught up in the war while trying to escape arrest.

He finds himself in the company of around 500 fellow Irish immigrants, led by John Riley from Galway, who found alongside the Americans as The San Patricio Battalion in the three year war from 1846.

The title of the play is taken from a quote attributed to the Mexican leader, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna: "With a hundred more like these men of Riley's, I could have won this war!"

Tickets, priced €15, concessions €12, are available from The Box Office or phone 9332332.
