Local soprano to sing at BBC Proms

Tara Erraught is set to sing with the Glydebourne Opera at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday July 22.

She will be singing Octavian as Glyndebourne marks its own 80th anniversary and Strauss's 150th with the composer's richly melodic Der Rosenkavalier – the first of a trilogy of Strauss operas at this year's Proms.

The Ravendsdale singer received huge support from fellow opera singers, including Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and music lovers after a number of male critics focussed on her appearance rather than her voice when the opera was first staged at Gyldnebourne earlier this year.

Since then, however, she has featured in a number of magazines including New York based magazine Opera News showcasing her in their section on up and coming singers and was listed among the '40 under 40 - the next generation of great opera singers' by Operavore on New York radio station WQXR.
