On Friday night I headed for the Lisdoo to make sure to be there for Irene Myles from Muirhevnamor's surprise 70th birthday. I have been a friend of Irene's for years and was there along with her kids Peter, Ian, Ciaran, Barry, Damien, Matthew, Lynn, Eimear and Lorraine and huge collection of family and friends.
Irene had been tricked into thinking she was going for a meal with son Ian and daughter-in-law Christina and got the shock of her life when she arrived in to find everyone there ready to celebrate her birthday.
I wasn't too long in the door when I got a word with son Peter who was with wife Michelle and kids Zoe And Darren from Manydown Close who told me he couldn't wait to see the look on her face when she came in.
Next I met son Ciaran who with wife Grainne and kids Oisin and Caolan from Mountain View who were with Caolan's girlfriend Sadhbh Woods from Dromiskin and they tried to tell me it was going to be a nice quite celebration. One of us was definitely at the wrong party I thought!
Heading for an adjacent table I got a word with Angela McNally from Meadow Grove who was with Marie Wilson from Drive 2 and Angela told me they have been lifelong friends and were really looking forward to the night.
Not too far away I got talking to Garreth Myles, Gerda and Dzana Treilone from Woodbury Gardens who were with Declan Hickey from Waterville Crescent who were there to party and wanted to wish Irene all the best on her big night.
Heading for another table I then met up with Martina Myles from Ravensdale who was having a laugh with Mary Myles from Lis Na Dara and they were up for making the best of the night with their mother-in-law as well as husbands Barry and Damien and kids Alanah, Cian, Kodi and Blake.
Making my way through the crowds I headed over for a chat with Margaret and Colette Nixon from Bay Estate who were delighted to be there for their friend's birthday and wanted to wish her all the best on her big night.
One man who certainly wouldn't be doing any dancing on the night was grandson Conal Myles from Villas 1 who was sporting a pair of crutches after doing his knee in the previous day, but just because the dancefloor was out of bounds certainly didn't mean he couldn't make the best of the celebrations.
I then met up with Alvaro Lucchesi from The Valley who was with Mary Gray from Seatown, Eithne Lambe from Marian Park and one of Irene's dearest old friends Jim Smyth from Chapel Street who were there to make sure she was going to have a wonderful night.
After this I met up with sister-in-law Catherine Connolly from Doylesfort Road who was with husband Thomas and she wanted to wish Irene all the best on her birthday celebrations.
I then bumped into Irene's sister Claire Kerrigan from Muirhevna who was with her partner Mickey Farrell from Belfry Crescent and she told me not to forget to give a major shout out to cousins and nieces Kay Hattar, Mark, Niamh, Patrick, Ann and Sarah Williams with her partner Joe who had come all the way from Tralee specially to wish Irene all the best on her big night and they were joined by Eilish McCabe, Claire McCarthy and partner Tom who were over from Brisbane specially for the party and were definitely up for a major Dundalk celebration.
After this I headed over for a quick chat with my old mates Aidan and Breda O'Kane from New Street and Breda wanted to wish her cousin a very happy birthday.
After this I caught up with Helen McGuinness from Muirhevnamor and Patricia Gray from Woodville Manor who assured me that it was going to be a huge night of celebrations for a lovely woman.
They were sitting with Rachel Myles from Faughart and Conor Mackin from Toberona who were looking forward to a fantastic night with Rachel's granny.
Heading for another table I met up with Deborah Gray and nephews Donal Kerrigan both from Lis Na Dara and Conor Kerrigan from Mede Bawn who looking forward to a nice quiet celebration, sorry, I really couldn't see that happening to be honest with you.
I made my way over for a quick word with Kay Hattar and Niamh Williams both from Tralee and Niamh said she was with Mark and the ladies were really looking forward to the celebrations.
Heading for another table I had the pleasure of talking to Ronnie Leggett and her delightful daughter Michelle both from Dowdallshill who wanted to wish their old neighbour a very happy birthday agreeing she is 'a lovely lady'.
Not too far away I got talking to former workmate of Irene's and her daughter Margaret Rafferty from Kilcurry and Lisa Commins from Mullaharlin Road who both said they hoped she had a great night.
A special mention had to go out to son Ian and wife Christina from Faughart who were tricking Irene into going to the Lisdoo and their kids Rachel and Stephen were already there enjoying the fun on the night.
Not too long later I got a word with son Matthew from Ravensdale who was with wife Christine and daughter Cara and wanted an extra special mention for their brand new son Luke Myles who is only 2 weeks old.
After this I met up with granddaughter Caitlin Myles from Muirhevnamor who was with her mates Shannon Smyth from Saltown and Chloe Murphy from Fatima who were ready to party no matter what.
Finally I then headed for a table where I caught up with grandkids and friends and they included Sorcha Myles from Muirhevnamor, Cara Myles from Ravensdale, Abi Woods from Manydown Close, Sadhbh Rafferty from Dromiskin, Zoe Myles from Manydown Close, Kodi Myles from Lis Na Dara, Zara Woods from Headford, Wayne Boland from Woodview Park and Caolan Myles from Mountain View who were up for a mad one and were the ones shouting the loudest when Irene arrived in with a totally shocked look on her face.
Happy birthday Irene, delighted you were caught!
