Epic night to help Una mark 50th in style

Dundalk after dark

One party that I had no intention of missing was the 50th celebrations for well-known Blackrock AC coach Una Breen from Oaklawns and there to make sure she had an epic night was husband Brendan, kids Kelly and Shane, sisters Maura, Joan, Breda, Fiona and Pat, mum Rose Tumilty from Avondale Park and a huge collection of family and friends.

I wasn't too long in the door when I got talking to Una's sister Maura who was with husband Gerry and daughter Katie McShane from Kilkerley who wanted to wish her a very happy birthday and hoped she had a great night.

At an adjacent table I then got a word with sisters Joan and Gerry Stewart from Kilcurry, cousins Eugene and Jacqueline Burns from Bay Estate, Martin Burns from Woodville Manor, John-Paul and Catriona Burns from Bay Estate and sister Brenda Craven from Avondale Park who were all in mad form and wanted to wish Una all the best on her big night.

Not too far away I then got a quick word with Mark and Elizabeth Sheils and Ann Finn from Carrick Road and Noel Finn from Oriel Terrace who are all friends of Una's and were up for making it a real night to remember.

After this I managed a few words with Michael and Helen Dwyer from Oaklawns who also wanted to wish all the best to their friend and neighbour.

Meanwhile up at the bar I caught up with Roz and Brian Morris and Michael and Irene Fee all from Blackrock who all know Una through her training work with the kids in Blackrock AC and were delighted to be there to celebrate with her.

Beside them I then got talking to Helen Cotter who was with Gerard McAlevey both from McSwiney Street who will be getting married in three weeks time in Anfield!

They were with Maeve and Fintan Reilly from Blackrock who were up for making it a real night to remember with their friend Una.

Just in the door were Una's neighbours Gearoid and Helen Mackin from Oaklawns who were just home from Spain where they celebrated the wedding of Helen's sister Yvonne Logan and Derek Monahan and by the photos put up on facebook it was an epic wedding.

After this I made my way over to a group who included Dave and Sarah Reilly from Garrybawn who were with Mary Scanlon and Emma Tinsley all from Blackrock who told me that Una is one of the longest serving coaches with the club, looking after the cross-country runners and is a former national cross-country champion too.

Next I headed over for a word with Ronan and Margaret Byrne from Mayobridge, Anne Fee from Kilkerley, Donal Bromley from Kilcurry, the girls told me they have been friends with Una since school days and they all attended the Kilkerley and Milltown Discos together.

Heading for another table I then got a few words with Brendan's family who included his mum Teresa Breen from Fr. Murray Park, brother Kevin and Siobhan Breen from Waterview, sister Ursula, Shane and Patricia Kelly from Rathcor who wanted to wish sister-in-law Una all the best on her big night.

Seated close by were Fergal Traynor from Blackrock who was with Chloe Kavanagh from Castlebellingham and his parents David and Veronica Traynor from Blackrock who were definitely up for making it a real night to remember.

Finally before I departed I got a word with some of Una's old workmates from her days in Dearey's and they included Therese Mernagh from Blackrock, Linda Martin from Seafield Lawns, Catriona Harrison from Ard Easmuinn, Breda Woods from Newry, Philomena Meegan from Inniskeen, Margaret McGill from Kilsaran, Anne Watters from Muirhevna, Eileen Clarke from Avondale Park, Mary McCartney from Avenue Road and Geraldine Carberry from Collon who were having a real nostalgic night and wanted to wish Una all the best.
