Chilean artist ends time at Creative Spark

Chilean animator and designer Antonia Pina has just completed a residency at Creative Spark in Dundalk.

After graduating from Design School where she studied textile design , Antonia's passion for the audiovisual world became stronger, especially for animation, and she pursued a postgraduate certificate in Art Direction for Cinema.

In 2016, she graduate with a Masters in Stop Motion animation in Spain, where she discovered the perfect combination of her love for crafts and telling stories.

Since then Antonia been working in different stop motion animation projects as background artist and puppet modelling in Barcelona, and recently started to work on a new short film to develop next year.

She co-directed 'From the same Thread', a stop motion animation film which has been widely screened and acclaimed in many international festival

In the last few years, she has been on illustrations, and during her residency in Creative Soark she explored the possibilities using printing in her work.

She said she enjoyed residency in Creative Spark as it afforded her the time to work on her own project.

'I was looking at residencies in different places on the internet and when I found the one in Creative Spark I applied as I was interested in using the print studio,' she said of her decision to travel to Dundalk.

'I found it really useful to explore and learn in the print studio and everyone was really helpful.'

She explained that she also found the exhibition beneficial as it gave her the opportunity to develop some personal projects.

'I work in stop motion animation and I am also working on a 2D animation project. I like mixing different techniques including analogue.'

During her time here, she created a video which will be shown during Creative Spark's annual exhibition.

While in Dundalk, Antonia took the opportunity to some of the country, visiting Northern Ireland, Dublin as well as north Louth.
