Dundalk Youth Arts Festival will bring fun, creativity and new skills to the young people of the town this bank holiday weekend.

Now in its second year the festival will be a mix of workshops in music and arts and performances to highlight the wonderful talents of young people.

Dundalk Youth Arts Festival, which received funding from CreateLouth, is a mixture of music, visual arts, dance and drama for young people.

The festival brings together Dundalk Youth Centre, Music Generation Louth, Dundalk Youth Theatre, Mad Youth Theatre and Creative Spark, and focuses on providing an opportunity for young people to get involved in the arts, develop their skills and to see top quality artistic talent.

The festival kicks off on Friday August 1st in Dundalk Youth Centre with samba drumming and rap workshops with Tempermental Miss Elayneous. Music Generation are also supporting a song writing workshop in Chapel Street. Places are limited so get booking fast.

The art room at the centre will be transformed into a digital arts and badge making factory for the day and all young people 12-18 are asked to come in and give it a go.

Friday evening is time for the Gig in the Garden in DYC from 5-7pm and lots of young performers will take to the stage including DJ Stazz and a number of local bands. Free barbeque and refreshments will be provided.

Saturday will see all the action happening in the Market Square and the Tain Arts Centre, Town Hall. On the square will be performances from the Samba workshop, Mas-F, Capoeira and Hip Hop dance.

In the Tain Theatre Calipo will show the excellent film Crossing the Divide which features young people from the Craobh Rua project in Muirhevnamor. This film has been the result of a cross border project and focuses on young peoples lives in the region. This is not to be missed.

For bookings call Dundalk Youth Centre on 042-9329532, Music Generation on 042-9364635 or call into any of the offices. Check out the Dundalk Youth Arts Festival Facebook page for more information and more details of the workshops.
