There were great celebrations as the results were announced in a packed Helix theatre on Monday morning.

The victory was all the sweeter as this year's competition, sponsored by Supervalu, had attracted a record 918 entries.

Blackrock was also named as the regional winner for Midlands and East Region and once again was Louth's tidiest town with 345 marks, having improved last year's score by eleven marks.

Dromiskin Tidy Towns won the national award for waste prevention, and were runners-up to Carlingford in Category C.

The county winners in the various population categories were Reaghstown, Tallanstown, Carlingford, Blackrock, Ardee and Drogheda.
