Rural Ireland in shock at plans to axe buses
A bus to Bunclody, Co Wexford picks up just six passengers but is no less vital for that, writes Nicola Anderson
"Bunclody? Janey now..." says the security man at Busáras, unsure where to begin, as he scans the destinations board which is alight with upcoming services.
He usually works nights but was drafted in at short notice, he explains.
The national hub of bus transportation at the ultra off-peak time of 8.30am on a February Thursday is practically deserted, apart from a knot of people waiting for the bus to Letterkenny.
