Where have all gentlemen gone?
Sir -- I read with amusement Gay Byrne's column last Sunday re the presidential hopefuls in Glenties heading into the local hotel and leaving poor Mary Davis to fend for herself and asking if gentlemanliness (a big word these days) was gone out the window.
I am amused at this as I have a lady friend with whom I go out on dinner dates. I collect her at her home, open the car door for her, lead her into the restaurant or wherever it is that we are going. She dresses very well and takes good care of her appearance. She compliments me on my dress code. She is a pleasure to be with and is a bucket of fun, yet a woman who knows her own mind.
Sometimes I see women who have no interest in their appearance and their male companions are the same.
