I must say, I am somewhat surprised to read that a Fianna Fail deputy has been appointed chairman of the Dail's Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning either the honesty or integrity of Deputy John McGuinness, but we had 14 years of an FF-led government that has wrecked this economy.
It's quite obvious from the disastrous state of our economy that the last watchdog must have been under a permanent anaesthetic. That's why I am of the opinion this appointment is just a prosperous position for the appointee. It is ridiculous to suggest it's essential to have to pay another watchdog on public spending. God Almighty, where was the last watchdog?
It was a waste of taxpayers' money, as not a single minister has been held accountable for wastage of taxpayers' contributions from the last administration. They took their outlandish pensions and ran.
The only thing that seems to have changed in the Dail chambers is the faces in government seats. Where the hell are all the election campaign promises of Mr Kenny and co -- "people will be held accountable"?
Mr Kenny's government is over 100 days in power but, unlike the ordinary people, it seems those fat cats haven't had to forego their cream.
