Well done on KBC bank story

Madam – Well done to Maeve Sheehan on her article, 'You still owe us €17,000', exposing the course of action pursued by KBC Bank in retrieving an outstanding balance (Sunday Independent, September 8, 2013). The unsympathetic demands of this financial institution in a period of grief highlights the lack of concern this establishment has for a family that has lost a father and fiance.

The action of the bank is more than "regrettable" – this is clearly an understatement by KBC. The bank's subsequent statement following her article is of little significance given the provocation this bank has caused the bereaved family. Its insincere gesture is diminutive, and clearly only a public relations stunt. Whatever happened to the mantra that financial institutions can't comment on individual cases? Shame on you, KBC!
