We couch potatoes need to act
Perhaps it's the heat. Mediterranean countries fare badly in the major new study of the effects of physical exercise -- or rather the lack of it -- published in the medical magazine 'The Lancet'.
Ourselves and the British have no such excuse. We are the most inactive Europeans with a cool climate. It is only a small consolation that they are even bigger couch potatoes (probably in both senses of the word) than us.
There is less consolation when one considers that Ireland has the youngest population in the EU. Yet the shocking figure is that, here and elsewhere, teenagers take less exercise than adults. Four out of five do not get the minimum recommended amount of physical activity. Something else to blame on social media?
