Vote for action on polling jobs

Sir -- Currently Ireland has over 400,000 people unemployed. So it was to my utter dismay that when I went into my local polling station to vote there were some polling officers who, already in gainful employment, had taken a day's leave from their current jobs to work at the polling station.

With the Christmas season nearly upon us and with a probable austere Budget looming, I'm sure that most people who are out of work would have appreciated the opportunity of been offered a chance of earning a few well needed euros.

The jobs should be advertised in every Social Welfare Office to the unemployed and people on low income. Fairness and equality to all!
