Utter contempt

• In a week that saw the tragic death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha as a result of a sinister prank by two DJs, we read in a Sunday newspaper article that a group of five cross-party TDs were involved in a cruel prank on a fellow TD who was battling on behalf of a farmer with a young family who were in trouble with a financial institution.

While these TDs were cosy in the warmth of the taxpayer-subsidised Dail members' bar on the eve of our recent austerity Budget, their fellow TD was involved in his 10th hour of a sit-in at that institution on behalf of a farmer family who were not even from his constituency.

It is difficult to understand how some of our grossly overpaid TDs consider it acceptable to engage in such childish activities during a difficult time for a family embroiled in a serious issue, like many others.
