Tricky words the Devil's playthings
Peter Stanford's article 'Why do priests still perform exorcisms?' (Irish Independent, February 24) misquotes the 19th Century poet, Baudelaire -- "the Devil's deepest wile is to persuade us that he does exist".
The actual quote is, "the Devil's best trick is to persuade you that he doesn't exist". Is this evidence of demonic intervention or textual error? We know that Satan's favourite strategy is confusion. Quick, call an exorcist or an editor!
