l Following on from the Government's proposal to tinker about with the number of TDs, I would suggest that the quality and not the quantity is a more immediate issue of concern.
I would like to propose a novel idea: qualified politicians. This would involve a new 'Politicians' Degree'. This four-year degree course would include modules on: Lateral Thinking, Causal Effect/Decision Making, Importance of Honour and Integrity, Constitution and Law, and Marketing and Business. It would also encompass modules on each of the various departments, including Environment, Children, Finance, etc. Successful completion would be a prerequisite to stand for election as a TD.
A further two-year Masters' course specialising in a particular portfolio, for example Finance, would be required for a TD to become a minister in that particular department.
