The sunny side of our energy needs

THE Irish Wind Energy Association says about €14bn will be invested in windfarms to meet the EU target of 40pc of all electricity needs from renewable sources by 2020 (Irish Independent, June 8).

I believe winds are too unpredictable to rely on for long-range production forecasts.

The real profiteers in windfarms are the landowners and companies lucky to get planning permission. Apart from the initial setting-up stage, it is not a labour-intensive venture and the suggested creation of 10,000 jobs is very debatable.
