The letter I wish I'd sent

Dear Daddy, Father, Dad, Yes - all three of you! You would be men whose paths never crossed - not to my knowledge, anyway, yet you have each occupied a pivotal point in my life.

Daddy - I still miss you. As an adoptive father, you were so full of love and kindness. My greatest sadness is that you died when I was 12. I would love to have had your guidance on through the years - and I would love you to have known your grandchildren, adults themselves now. I hope you know how much I loved you.

Father - I do know who you are. I have written you many letters, but sent none. I met my birth mother many years ago and she told me of you. I have no wish to disrupt your life - but I do have a great desire to meet you. We're both getting on in years now. Maybe someday we'll get a look at each other, share coffee and a chat.
