The last thing that we need is a monarchy

AFTER watching John McEntee on 'The Frontline' on RTE recently, pining for a return to the UK and hearing similar opinions voiced by quite a few people, I think Irish people should be reminded that a republic is a very noble and just political idea.

Living in a proper republic means that someone gets to a position of power through hard work and integrity, not because of an accident of birth or because your bloodline is supposedly superior to other human beings.

Personally, if I was British, I would be truly ashamed that this archaic nonsense is still allowed to continue.

So I would say the same to John McEntee as I would to any other like-minded individuals -- thanks, but no thanks.
