The Irish question

•GG Daldon wants to hand a petition to FG to stop compulsory Irish if he gets 10,000 signatures (Irish Independent, September 23).

Does he know that a petition handed to FG in favour of keeping Irish compulsory had more than 20,000 signatures?

Even if he gets more than 10,000 signatures, FG knows very well that the majority of people are in favour of Irish remaining compulsory -- because they got that message on the doorsteps and from all the other parties.
