The closed door

• In his letter (Irish Independent, July 25), Ciaran Mac Annraoi bemoans the time taken for Dublin Bus vehicles to load and unload. Well, it cannot all be blamed on the Leap Card.

With the exception of the Routemaster buses on heritage services 9 and 15, all London double-deckers are dual-door, allowing simultaneous passenger egress and ingress, reducing time at stops and, in the process, reducing fuel-consumption -- of considerable importance these days.

Dublin Bus and its predecessor have owned more than 1,000 dual-door double-deckers, but thanks to the obduracy of Dublin Bus crews, the use of the exit doors has never been sanctioned.
