Terror career of Michael Collins

Sir -- John-Paul McCarthy (Sunday Independent, August 22) has resoundingly demolished the traditional cozy Fine Gael bourgeoisie wall of propaganda which has shielded Michael Collins for far too long.

It is very clear from any in-depth study of the nationalist terror career of Michael Collins that Fine Gael grabbed the wrong trophy to adorn its fireside mantelpiece.

By the time Collins met his fate at Beal na mBlath on August 25, 1922, more than 4,000 people were either dead or wounded, most killed by the IRA, and Collins's special gang of assassins, the Squad.
