'Temporary' tax

• Income tax was introduced as a temporary measure to rescue the finances of the country following the disastrous harvest of 1947 by the Eamon de Valera government.

History has a habit of repeating itself and I am sure it is doing that right now, with the €100 annual charge -- just imagine what it will be in 10 years' time.
