Tech overload

• My name is Ethan and I am 13 years old. Recently on the No 15 bus on the way into school I witnessed a disturbing development involving modern technology.

It was an abnormally hectic morning for me because I woke up very late, had to wolf down breakfast and then run to catch my bus, out of fear of being late for school. When the bus stopped I jumped on and, without looking, I raised my hand and heard the unmissable, loud and irritating sound of my card hitting the machine beside the door.

I looked up the aisle and saw an empty seat at the very back of the bus. As I began walking towards the seat I was hit by a blast of Eminem, Lady Gaga and heavy metal blaring from headphones all around me. As I sat down I also noticed the distinctive tapping sound of people on their iPads and Kindles. Hardly a word was said by anyone for my entire journey into school.
