TDs indifferent to human suffering
MUCH that happens in the Dail these days defies understanding. While reading your report on the animated antics of a number of Fianna Fail TDs who oppose the stag hunting ban proposals (Irish Independent, June 25), it struck me that they remained moribund when the Government was handing out untold pain and suffering to lone parents, welfare recipients, and low-paid workers while at the same time pouring billions into black holes to bail out the wealthy.
It seems animal welfare matters excite parties in a way that human welfare issues can.
Perhaps those who make representations on behalf of the most vulnerable humans might investigate to establish what the magic ingredient is that lies behind this phenomenon.
