WITH regard to recent calls to boycott Israeli products and services (Letters, January 2), I find these to be very offensive, and in fact, ridiculous.
Israel is a small country surrounded by millions of people who do not recognise its right to exist and want to destroy it and finish off what Hitler started in Europe over 50 years ago -- the annihilation of the Jewish people.
It is the only country in that volatile region which holds truly free democratic elections, open to all its population (24pc of which is made up of Arabs).
It is subject to terrorism on a daily basis, from Hamas and its sponsor, Syria. Israel has a right to protect its territory and its people.
Israel should be better supported and defended by Ireland and the EU and we should not listen to calls for "boycotts".
