Stubborn English stealing show
AS an Englishman, I thoroughly agree with Kevin Myers's insightful look into the English character (Irish Independent, March 3). But could he also explain how this stubborn streak, that lacks all imagination, has the best theatre tradition in the world?
One only has to take a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon (as many Irish schools do) to witness world-class Shakespeare productions. Repertory theatres fill the length and breadth of the country with theatre of the highest standard.
I recently witnessed a student production in Kings Cross, London, that was magnificent.
