Stop whining, reduce costs and sell tourism
AFTER reading Brian McCarthy's letter (May 13), I wondered if the overpricing of which he complained still existed. So I went to www.discoverireland.ie, (Connemara, special offers), where I found 'midweek leisure/golden years' from €135pps to €229pps!
That price immediately put me off, considering that I could fly to Berlin and stay near the Alexanderplatz in a four-star hotel for less than the basic price quoted to stay in Connemara.
A lot of businesses in the hospitality industry moan about costs rather than selling their product. I've seen one hotel in Dublin that has a variable-message LED sign for its prices. Midweek it can be as low as €29 and goes up according to demand -- that is real salemanship!
