Stop before it's too late

Sir -- We met almost by accident on the Athboy/Delvin (in Meath) road on Sunday October 10. A car rounded a bend on the wrong side of the road while in the process of overtaking a four-wheel drive vehicle.

That could easily have been the last thing I saw on this earth. Luckily for all of us, I managed to brake sufficiently, as did the driver of the vehicle that was being overtaken, to allow the other driver to complete their murderous manoeuvre.

Hazard lights were briefly activated either in acknowledgement of the error or as a gesture of appreciation for our evasive action.
