Sir -- Jim Cusack correctly identified the link with State subsidisation and criminality (Sunday Independent, June 5, 2011). On the one hand the State is duty bound to defend its citizens but it also has taken the role of defending those who transgress the law of that State.
Jim Cusack is certainly aware that the removal of free legal aid would spark outrage. This outrage would not come from the ordinary criminal.
The outrage would come from the practitioners of law. Those who claim to work in a profession but who actually work in an industry driven and maintained by social order chaos. Solicitors and barristers would and could not countenance the removal of free legal aid.
