Spiritual leaders have failed us
HOW thoroughly sad that Cardinal Brady has exhibited the same approach to the sex abuse scandals as all those who failed before him. Namely, that he has put his own interests above those for whom he is supposed to guide.
If ever a leader was needed within the Catholic Church it surely is in these perilous times.
Our bishops have singularly failed the people of this land. Stuck in their cocoon, they seem to be incapable of seeing the great tragedy that is unfolding before them, namely the death of the church.
And indeed it is a death, for such is the degree to which the church has been undermined that those generations now growing up will shun its teachings and steer clear of it.
