Sorry to English

Sir -- Failing its emergence from nearer home, I cannot in the name of common decency and rationality, let the letters so far apropos the Queen's visit pass without rebuke.

One K Nolan (Sunday Independent, July 4, 2010) hopes that the Queen will be confined to the Pale "with perhaps a short visit to west Cork to be hailed by her subjects there". As one of the thousands of economic exiles who found refuge in Britain during the 20th century, I find such a mindset narrow, blinkered, prejudiced, arrogant, atavistic, embarrassing and dangerous.

Should you deem it appropriate, please publish this missive on behalf of like-minded emigrants, who would be glad of the opportunity to apologise to the people of west Cork and to the Queen.
