Some EU truths
• David McWilliams's recent article contained several extraordinary statements (Irish Independent, October 17). He says that while in Arizona, he met the "brilliant American economist Austan Goolsbee -- chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and the youngest member of Obama's cabinet". In fact, Mr Goolsbee resigned from this position in August 2011.
Mr McWilliams goes on to say that by "taking the pulse on the streets, it is clear that efforts to save the euro are "increasing nationalistic feeling and splitting the unity of the EU as countries move to protect their own interests".
He should ignore the pulse of the streets and instead take the pulse where it matters most -- at the ballot box.
