Smile on austerity

• Perhaps A Leavy (Letters, May 8) who appears to enjoy austerity to the point of defending its existence, could take my share of the crushing weight upon those same strong shoulders.

Anyone who believes the hard times are good for us needs to be closely observed so that we can learn how cheerfully to adapt to having less while feeling better about everything.

Watch those headlines, editor, or there might be a few smiles out here breaking through.

And we can't have that -- one never knows who's watching. Don't dance on the grave of austerity just yet. Wait for permission from Germany.
