Scientology is an unholy fraud

SO the Church of Scientology has been branded an "organised fraud" by a French court and fined €600,000 for preying financially on its vulnerable believers, scamming €21,000 and €49,500 from the two female plaintiffs (Irish Independent, October 28).

The core claims of the cult were declared "fallacious" and designed to "hook" members into paying large sums of money on "treatments".

The words of its founder, science-fiction author L Ron Hubbard, are apt: "You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion."

The Vatican was, naturally, unavailable for comment.
