Scandals are rooted in our fear of power

POWER and the abuse of power are treated by too many of us in this country as alien concepts.

As a society we have fallen into a stupor over the course of the life of this State, with regard to wrongdoing by those wearing expensive suits and cassocks.

The French philosopher, Michel Foucault, argued that the most far-reaching and menacing power impinging upon any citizenry is the power it operates within itself on behalf of abusers.
