RTE tax avoiders

• Like Joe McArdle (Letters, July 27), I was shocked when I learnt that many of RTE's highest paid stars are paid through private companies, rather than as PAYE workers.

This means that they pay corporation tax of just 12.5pc, instead of paying PAYE at 41pc like the rest of us.

There is, of course, nothing illegal in this, but the fact that several of these tax avoiders regularly take to the airwaves and print media to attack the pay and conditions of ordinary public-sector workers shows their appalling double standards.
