Reporter knew how to do his job

Sir -- I take serious issue with the column by Liam Collins (Sunday Independent, Feb. 21, 2010) regarding the circumstances in which Willie O'Dea was interviewed by Limerick Leader journalist Mike Dwane last March.

In particular, I must respond to Liam Collins' insinuation that our reporter did not know the difference between what is on or off the record -- and that he should not have put Mr O'Dea's comments into the public domain.

Liam Collins says that in making the claim that a Sinn Fein local election candidate was co-owner of an apartment being used as a brothel, Willie O'Dea was merely passing on "a bit of salacious gossip".
