Remove local councillors

Madam -- John Drennan reports (Sunday Independent July 8, 2012), that Phil Hogan intends to radically reform local government and that Senator Denis Landy disagrees.

In this case I find myself on the side of Phil Hogan, since I would have the view that local councillors are not doing the job we elected them to do and they should all be removed.

The State recognises the role of local government in providing a forum for the democratic representation of local communities, in exercising and performing at local level powers and functions conferred by law and in promoting the interests of such communities.
