Refusing US currency won't attract tourists

I have just returned to the USA, having spent a six-week vacation in Ireland. It was a wonderful experience except for the difficulty of having $100 notes exchanged for euro.

On two occasions I was refused by two separate Irish banks and the only way it could be done was to go through the account of a relative with an account in that branch.

As a visitor to your country, I was expecting that my foreign currency would be welcome and felt offended that it was not.

Presumably, Ireland wants to increase visitor numbers, but having US currency notes refused in banks is not a good way to set about it.
