Refusing to deal with drink woes
The Irish have been slated in a recent European study as being the EU's number one binge drinkers (Irish Independent, April 22).
This is not the first European study showing chronic alcoholism in Ireland; many others have been produced and ignored.
Alcoholism is a very serious disease which is sweeping across this country. It is not uncommon for people to spend a week's wages on pubbing and clubbing, only to find themselves in an A&E department or detox unit. The relationship of the Irish with alcohol has been disastrous, showing up a society of ignorance, stupidity, and ill-health.
