Public servants tired of ignorant abuse

I am astounded that there has been no response to Brendan Howlin's comments on the public service, i.e., that it is "not fit for purpose".

It's no mean achievement to insult so may people at the same time. Maybe the reason for the lack of response is that the public service is so downtrodden and abused that members see no point in trying to deal with mass ignorance of what work it does do.

It has been a political football for so long. The number of public servants on 'big salaries' is a small proportion.

It suited fine in the 1980s to pack it to reduce the dole queues. I note a politician recently stating he couldn't survive on a €30,000 pension.

I think many of those on social welfare would trade places.
