Public sector has had 14pc pay cut
Pol Mac Eitin queries how the current pay demands for public sector workers would be met (Letters, March 10).
Their pay has been cut by an average of 14pc since February, 2009. The cut inflicted in the December Budget is projected by the Government to yield €1.005bn. The proposals that were about to emanate from the talks that were collapsed by the Government in December would have yielded savings of almost €1.3bn this year, without reducing pay scales.
The agreement would have resulted in the maintenance of that level of saving, at least in future years, through the transformation of public service provision and delivery.
