Public sector an easy scapegoat

What planet exactly has T Mahon been on for the last three years? (Letters, December 4, 2010). Does this individual not know that the average public sector wage has already been cut, first in 2009 by a so-called pension levy? This was followed later in the same year by a pay cut.

The overall average cut plus pension levy was 14pc for many public servants. This was then followed by the much vaunted Croke Park Agreement which is, in effect, a pay freeze plus extra "productivity".

The truth is that the average public servant has already surrendered all gains and more gained in Benchmarking. Secondly, the pension levy deduction is not shown in any current statistics.
