Protesting our lack of solidarity

Madam -- Having read Declan Lynch's article regarding our country's apparent ambivalent attitude to the current ongoing economic catastrophe, I must say that his views are spot on, in my opinion. I have always wondered why we as a people never resorted to the legitimate protests that the Greeks and Spanish people (notwithstanding some ugly scenes by a small minority), have carried out. Mr Lynch's views articulate all that is wrong with our society regarding our ambivalence to crises in our country over the decades. I have listened intently to our national radio broadcasters debating the current issues and have come to the conclusion that they don't sufficiently question any left-wing views.

I ask myself how they themselves have been affected compared to the ordinary citizen. We should always be ever mindful of the needs of others. Are we really all in it together?
