Protecting pals damages Budget

The pay reduction of a mere 3pc in Budget 2010 for grades at assistant secretary or higher in the public sector is absolutely disgraceful.

It is entirely proper to protect junior grades at low salaries; no responsible member of the general public would object to this provision.

However, the same percentage reduction should be applied to all grades -- without exception. The decision to take a lower amount from grades at the very top is simply taking care of pals and cronies to the extent where important provisions in the Budget lack credibility.

Every person must cover core expenses, irrespective of grade, and reductions should decrease as grades move downwards.
